New Zealand takes advantage of Hong Kong Sevens at the Inaugural New Zealand Rugby Sevens Reception

Ex All Blacks, Olympic gold medalists and other sports celebrities mingled with a Hong Kong business audience on the eve of this year’s Sevens tournament.

New Zealand Minister of Commerce, Hon Craig Foss welcomed Hong Kong’s Rugby enthusiast community to the Inaugural New Zealand Rugby Sevens Reception.

Former All Blacks Tana Umaga, Filo Tiatia and Christian Cullen were in attendance, as well as coach Chester Williams and Olympic Gold Medalist Grant Bramwell.

Hosted by the New Zealand Consulate-General in Hong Kong, and supported by Air New Zealand, Sino Group and Carinat the Reception featured iconic New Zealand food and wine.
Air New Zealand’s Regional General Manager Asia, Sandeep Bahl said, “Air New Zealand is proud to be associated with the event.

With our daily double flights from Hong Kong to Auckland in conjunction with Cathay Pacific, we provide easy access and connections to over 25 destinations in New Zealand and Pacific Islands. Whether travellers are visiting New Zealand for sports activities, experience the outdoors or looking for potential investment and business opportunities, Air Zealand offers the best choice, product and service to our customers.”

Local media were invited to attend a special session prior to the Reception, with the opportunity to interview the visiting Kiwi sportspeople.

New Zealand Consul General to Hong Kong Robert Kaiwai says the sporting stars are great ambassadors for New Zealand.

“The festive atmosphere of the Sevens provided a perfect back drop for this event, where Hong Kong businesspeople had the chance to learn about the investment opportunities New Zealand can offer in a relaxed setting”.

“The Consulate was proud to work with Air New Zealand, Sino Group and Carinat to showcase the best of New Zealand food, wine, culture and sporting prowess. We look forward to the New Zealand Rugby Reception becoming an annual Sevens event; not to be missed by rugby fans”.
