OPTINVENT: Enabling Next Generation Displays

Optinvent

On the occasion of a Press Conference to be held in Taiwan on 4th May, 2011 French company OPTINVENT will present the characteristics of its 3D technology packaged in a module called “Clear-Vu”.
OPTINVENT S.A. of Rennes, France has developed a new technology packaged in a module called “Clear-Vu” with a see-through feature for 3D capable augmented reality video glasses. Clear-Vu is a paradigm shift in the way mobile content is consumed. The company will showcase its products at Computex Taipei 2011 from 31st May to 4th June in a private area by invitation only.
Rather than surfing the web, playing games, or watching video on the tiny screen of a mobile device, Clear-Vu gives the user a transparent big screen mobile experience. Moreover, it is 3D capable thus enabling true stereoscopic mobile 3D applications. Due to the see-through feature, Clear-Vu also enables a myriad of augmented reality applications.
Other See-through techniques exist, but suffer from either high cost or low performance (image quality, low brightness efficiency, color issues, weight, size, etc.). Clear-Vu uses low cost molded plastic components that allow low weight and an attractive form factor. This allows Clear-Vu to be the only viable solution of this type for consumer applications and makes it an enabling platform for a rich variety of 3D mobile content and AR applications.

PRODUCTS / SERVICES
Clear-Vu is a paradigm shift in the way mobile content is consumed. Rather than surfing the web, playing games, or watching video on the tiny screen of a mobile device, Clear-Vu gives the user a mobile large screen experience. Moreover, it is 3D capable thus enabling stereoscopic mobile 3D applications. Due to the see-through feature, Clear-Vu also enables a myriad of true augmented reality applications. By wearing a pair of glasses equipped with the Clear-Vu technology (rather than constantly holding a camera phone in front of him) the user will experience full rich augmented reality in a comfortable way. Clear-Vu uses low cost molded plastic components that allow low weight and a thin form factor. This allows Clear-Vu to be the only viable technology of this type for consumer applications. Furthermore, Clear-Vu can be used for other applications where there is a need for a hands free and/or head-up display of information (aviation, military, motorcycle, etc.). In conclusion, Clear-Vu is a platform that will enable a rich variety of mobile content and applications that can only exist with the advent of this product segment (see-through wearable display).
INNOVATION / DIFFERENCE
Optinvent has developed a new technology packaged in a module called “Clear-Vu” with a see-through feature for video glasses. The current state-of-the-art today for video glasses is the use obstructive optical systems that don't allow the user to see through the display and therefore cannot be used in the mobile environment. Another disadvantage of such “immersive” systems is that certain users experience motion sickness since they cannot perceive their surrounding environment.
The technology has been under devvelopment since early 2008. The proof of concept phase has been passed and the main components have been molded. There is still a few steps before the industrialization phase is complete.
Other See-through techniques exist, but suffer from either high cost or low performance (image quality, low brightness efficiency, color issues, weight, size, etc.).
There are currently 4 patents on the Clear-Vu technology
