Message from Mr. Haldun Tekneci, Consul General of the Turkish Republic

Message from Mr. Haldun Tekneci, Consul General of the Turkish Republic

Today we are proudly celebrating the 91st anniversary of the proclamation of the Turkish Republic.

Being at the epicenter of the Eurasia, Turkey shares deep rooted common historical and cultural ties with other countries in the region. Turkey has a strong economy and dynamic society today. As a secular and functioning democracy based on the rule of law, free elections and respect for human rights, Turkey above all represents, and promotes universal values. Turkey carefully acts to contribute to peace, stability and welfare in its region and beyond. With its exceptional economic performance following the global downturn in 2008, Turkey is now the 17th largest economy in the world and the 6th largest in Europe.

As one of the leading global finance and trade centers and the gate-way to mainland China and a greater region Hong Kong SAR constitutes a prominent hub with which Turkey would like to further improve economic and trade relations, strengthen financial cooperation and cultivate people-to-people ties. While we strive for sustained improvement of those relations, we also try to increase visibility of Turkey in Hong Kong and vice versa.

In recent years diversified relations between Turkey and Peoples’ Republic of China have gained a strong momentum based on the vision of strategic partnership too. Lofty economic and trade goals set forth by two countries would be attained with enhanced cooperation and coordination.

Turkey remains to be the one of the most attractive tourism destinations in the world. We would be very pleased to have more tourists and visitors from Hong Kong, who could surely enjoy our traditional hospitality, delicious food, beautiful seaside resorts, bustling cultural and social life as well as historical sites and monuments.
