In line with the concept used for the well-known America’s Cup, challengers from North America, Asia and Europe will come to pit their skills against teams from the best wine-appreciation clubs of leading business schools and universities in France.

The eight teams will compete during the final which is to be held at Château Lafite Rothschild, in Pauillac, on Thursday 28th June 2012, as part of the Bordeaux Wine Festival (“Bordeaux Fête le Vin”).

Chaired by Baron Eric de Rothschild, owner of Château Lafite Rothschild, this wine tasting competition, “The Left Bank Bordeaux Cup”, created by the Commanderie du Bontemps, was first launched in 2002.

In 2004, the Competition first welcomed contenders from Great Britain and the participation of the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge has now become a traditional feature of this contest. 2011 opened a new chapter, with the arrival of challengers from all over the world.

2012 confirms the growing success of the “The Left Bank Bordeaux Cup” with, at the start of the competition, 8 teams from the USA, 15 French teams, 14 teams from Asia and 5 teams from Europe, from Great Britain, Denmark and the Netherlands.

This event indisputably contributes to the far-reaching international influence of fine wines from Bordeaux’s Left Bank. It represents an opportunity to establish a link between students of diverse cultures who come together to enjoy a passion they share: wine.
