Asiatique the Riverfront – A Night Bazzar and a Mall

Back in the 1900s, during the reign of King Chulalongkorn, Asian countries were under threat of invasion from the European superpowers. With great foresight, King Chulalongkorn took the initiative to raise Siam to the level of leading countries of the world and decided to establish relations with Denmark. Included in this process was the construction of a pier belonging to the East Asiatic Company, a business dedicated to the export of teak wood and owned by Mr. Hans Nille Andersen, a Danish national. This pier signaled the beginning of international trade between the Kingdom of Siam (the former name of Thailand) and European nations and was the key to Siam maintaining the sovereignty and independence it enjoys to this day.

Today, that same area which the East Asiatic pier occupies is being restored to its original glory under the name “ASIATIQUE The Riverfront,” the first and the biggest lifestyle project in Asia on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, and soon to become Bangkok’s trendiest landmark.

Charenonkrung District

Synopsis of ASIATIQUE The Riverfront

Cultural heritage and a global lifestyle play a big role in the concept and design of

ASIATIQUE, The Riverfront. Modeled after Bangkok’s fourmajortrade districts, the project weaves together all the essential elements that define what Bangkok was, as well as redefine what it is and what it will become in the near future.

Chareonkrung District, once the old trade centre, is now a ‘new road to the country’s modernization’. Find both traditional and modern Thai culture through performing arts, Thai puppets by Joe Louis Theatre and Calypso Show as well as more than 1,000 retail shops selling Thai handicrafts, souvenirs home décor and spas.

Town Square District blends Thai and Western ways of life, with an international dining scene and sports bars. There is also space for events and activities, including sports, games and product launches

Factory District is the area for fashion showcases, a hip dining scene and shops selling all kinds of design products from clothing to gadget. The focus is on modern lifestyles born after the ‘Industrial Age’.

Waterfront District, the main highlight at ASIATIQUE,The Riverfront, is essentially the development of Bangkok’s riverside from a centre of trade to tourism. International fine-dining establishments occupy the areas along the riverbanks, while the city’s longest public boardwalk (300m) is lined with restaurants and events venues. This is also where the concerts, festivals and the New Year’s countdown celebrations take place.

ASIATIQUE, The Riverfront will be Bangkok’s first large-scale riverside project combining shopping, dining, sightseeing, activities and events under one roof. The strong cultural aspect is what sets it apart from other shopping malls. Embracing history, but avoiding the cultural clichés and traditional symbols, it strikes a balance between tradition and globalization.

New kickboxing show“Muay Thai Live : The Legend Lives” opens in Bangkok

Bringing the origins and heroes of Thai kickboxing back to life, MUAY THAI LIVE : THE LEGEND LIVES is an epic live show that captures 300 years of Muay Thai’s history though a dazzling combination of hyper-real fights, breathtaking stunts and sweeping drama.

Created and directed by Ekachai Uekrongtham, celebrated Thai director of the award-winning film ‘Beautiful Boxer’ and the hit musical ‘Chang & Eng’, the show opens this January 15, 2014 at The Stage, Bangkok's new playhouse at the heart of Asiatique The Riverfront, Asia’s largest lifestyle, dining and entertainment complex.

THE LEGENDS OF THAI BOXING

MUAY THAI LIVE: THE LEGEND LIVES conjures up Muay Thai’s greatest heroes, from the origins to present day, in a series of tales artfully woven together.

Over the course of the show, the audience will witness a mysterious stranger defeat champions in THE TIGER IN DISGUISE; they will be amazed at the feats of Nai Khanom Tom, a chained prisoner who faces ten savage fighters in THE PRISONER WITH EIGHT LIMBS; they will tremble for General Pichai, who confronts heavily armed warriors with his bare hands in THE BROKEN SWORDS; flash-forwarding to the present, the audience will watch in awe as a kickboxing lover rescues his girlfriend from the grips of thugs -- Thai style -- in THE ACTION HERO; Finally, as the show draws to a close, the spiritual power of Muay Thai and its connection to the Thai people will be revealed in MUAY THAI FOREVER.

A WORLD-CLASS ACT

The 18-strong cast of MUAY THAI LIVE : THE LEGEND LIVES packs an incredible array of talent, including real life Muay Thai champs, black belt martial artists, professional stuntmen, extreme sports athletes and traditional Thai dancers.

To do justice to the world's most lethal martial art ("the combat sport that cannot be beaten"), Mr Uekrongtham has called upon Master Sane Tubthimtong, one of Thailand’s most respected Muay Thai masters, to choreograph the spectacular fight sequences of MUAY THAI LIVE : THE LEGEND LIVES. As the show spans three centuries, Mr. Tubthimtong has dug deep into Thailand's glorious past to recreate a wide variety of Muay Thai styles, from the beautifully choreographed Muay Thai Boran of the origins all the way to the modern high-speed, high-impact kickboxing techniques.

TOTAL ENTERTAINENT FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

In addition to Thai Boxing in its many incarnations, the show also features dramatic sword-fighting, jaw-dropping stunts, some uncanny free-running moves and a blend of traditional Thai and modern dance, not to forget a touch of humour and romance.

Conceived as a family-friendly entertainment, MUAY THAI LIVE: THE LEGEND LIVES offers a rare mix of thrills and drama enhanced by a lush production which brings the glory of Thailand's cultural heritage back to life in spectacular fashion.

A BRAND NEW VENUE
MUAY THAI LIVE: THE LEGEND LIVES opens January 15, 2014 and will run at 8PM daily at The Stage, a brand new theatre at the heart of Asiatique The Riverfront, Bangkok's new tourism hotspot and Asia’s largest lifestyle and shopping complex.

Purposely built for the show, the Stage is a state-of-the-art, air-conditioned venue equipped with the latest light and sound technology and ultra-modern, comfort-minded amenities including bar, lounge, souvenir shop and private VIP areas.

Art in Paradise Bangkok Kick off Recently

Art in Paradise, the very successful interactive attraction which started in Pattaya, is now open at Esplanade Shopping Mall on Ratchada road. Also refered by locals as the Trickeye Museum or 3D Museum, Art in Paradise is great fun for couples, friends and families to spend a few hilarious hours, especially on rainy days. Esplanade Mall is located on the outskirts of Bangkok, but the MRT station is right in front of the mall.

Located on the 4th floor of the rather quiet mall, the new 3D Art in Paradise is a shiny and spotless 2 storey gallery packed with superbly executed paintings in which visitors are invited to be part of dozens of scenes ranging from ‘stairway to hell’, 'ride a flying carpet' to the ‘Coronation of the Emperor’.
