Hong Kong's dynamism lures Australian café to set up shop

Hong Kong's dynamism lures Australian café to set up shop

Caféine from Australia announced on March 25 that it has opened its first overseas outlet in Hong Kong, catering to the growing cluster of customers in the city aspiring to drink quality coffee and enjoy a different dining experience.

Caféine is located in a ground-floor shop on Queen's Road Central in Sheung Wan, near offices and a growing area for lunch-time eateries. It offers a cozy environment and serves genuine Australian coffees and a variety of cuisines and dishes at reasonable prices.

Owners Mr Dean Hintz and wife Ms Jane Sexton said that the decision to set up in Hong Kong was not just a new business opportunity but also an exciting new stage of their life, in a booming international city.

Mr Hintz said, "Moving to a city overseas to establish a new business obviously has its risks. But there is a sense of security with Hong Kong due to its rule of law, progressive infrastructure, established business communities and networks and a real sense of positivity about making things happen."

He added, "From a personal perspective, the dynamic atmosphere of Hong Kong and round-the-clock availability of great food mean that it's possible to operate a café during the day and enjoy going out for a meal afterwards. In Australia, unless you are in the central business district or Chinatown of a major city, everything closes very early."

Mr Hintz said that Caféine immediately adds a new dining option for the large number of office employees and residents in the district, and that shortly after opening, a number of existing customers from Australia had already heard about and patronised their new shop in Hong Kong.

The Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, Mr Andrew Davis, congratulated Caféine on the opening of its Hong Kong shop. He said, "The story of Dean and Jane is one of the many stories that show how people see Hong Kong as a unique international city, and this is one of the reasons why we keep drawing successful entrepreneurs and talent to set up or expand their businesses from here. I am delighted that Caféine chose Hong Kong and wish them big success."
